Carved and
Cast Sculpture
A lifetime of experience has made for the experience of a lifetime.
The whole experience for me started as an elective project in part to fulfill the requirements for classwork while working for my degree in Secondary Education at Central Michigan University.
Pursuant to my minor in Art I was taking a course in Printmaking wherein we were learning to do block printing. The process involved carving a block of wood and using that as a plate to print from. I became captivated with the process and it was the beginning of a love affair with wood.
Years later while teaching in high school I continued to carve wood at every opportunity and eventually I left teaching entirely to produce carvings of the nature you see on this website. I moved gradually into producing more abstract forms which may be seen on my alternate site dedicated to that style. Still, I have never lost interest in the more realistic/figurative subjects shown on this site. I find them very challenging in their more disciplined approach.
