 The Tail of the Squirrel

Because what would a Squirrel be without a tail?   Truly the tail is the most distinctive part of this critter.  Without it he would not be able to leap between buildings with a single bound.  And lets face it, he would just not be a squirrel.  That proportionately large tail he carries around while waving it like a flag is his most important identification to his profession…. gathering nuts.  Nobody does it better.

Squirrel Pose and Artist Poise

I little of both  squirrel pose and artist poise is required to render a squirrel to monumental heights for a representation in an artwork.  And with each member working to full capacity the artwork might even reach stellar proportions.   Okay,  that may be a little over the top for a descriptor.  But the truth is as long as the tail is in the tally, the definition is in the bag.  Er, that is, no one will miss identifying a squirrel, as long as it has that characteristic tail.  So the artist’s rendition is quite easily accomplished in the sense of making a statement of what it is.  But giving it character falls upon the artist’s poise and the squirrels pose,  which is best expressed in the tale of the tail.  Or is that the other way round?  In any case the story will be told in my most recent carving of a squirrel, which is now underway.  Watch along as I discover the one that lies beneath the surface of this fork in a tree branch.
