Once a sculpture is finished the final task remains to photograph the work. This is a process in itself. And a very exact one. The two dimensional image never comes close to proper representation of the three dimensional sculpture. But the pictures are important to the promotion of the work, and instrumental to its sale. Proper lighting is essential in providing as much information as possible in the chosen view. Shadows are the most important element in showing the form but large shadows are to be avoided which will obscure the detail you are trying to enhance. Too much fill light to eliminate the large shadows, will balance the light to the point it flattens the image, and your back where you started. I really hate doing this photography. it takes seemingly forever to get the lighting right, and I never feel it is totally right. But I have used professionals and they never seem to get it right either.
