Just another day with a squirrel
Yeah really, because my studio is not squirrel proof. So I literally spent my days with squirrel company while carving this one. Their presence never seen, but always heard, as they frolicked in my attic. So I never get lonely, they are always there to keep me company. But it would have been helpful if they had obliged me with an occasion appearance, and strike a pose for me. It is always helpful for an artist to work from a living image, than the one conjured in the mind. The sculpture at hand, had just such a beginning. Conceived on the spur of the moment from an imagined recall. Spontaneity is the hallmark of intrigue in formulating a work of art. An inspiration piques the concept, and reason carries it to fruition. The logical progression of time and changing form reveals itself to the artist, as a novel does to a reader. It gradually coalesces and finally solidifies, and the result is a serendipity of chance guided by challenge. Always a masterpiece, hardly. Unless of course you measure the worth to the artist’s own experience. But I leave that last sensation to your imagination.
