A Black Bear in a Hollow

Never saw a bear in a tree.  Yes, up in a tree.  But not inside of a tree.  So you see, this is what is said to be….. a “stretch”.  Stretching, as in terms of stretching the truth as it were.  Because though unlikely, it is not beyond the limits of seeing….. a bear in a tree, like this one will be.  Come back again and watch for free.  You might even see me.

About the Carving

This piece is being carved from a black walnut branch.  The bark you see in the picture will remain in the finished piece. Only the area now seen exposed will represent the bear.  At this stage of carving (beginning) I am looking for where I want to place the head of the bear which will become my major reference point to allocating the size and position of the rest of the bear within the rest of the wood.  This is the most exciting phase of my work, for me, because it is at this time I can see my what I see in my imagination actually solidify in substance.

You may see other of my work for sale at my ETSY Store.
